Easter Sunday

Busy Day today with the 1916 Easter Rising Ceremony and the Leinster v Toulouse Heineken Cup Semifinal in the Aviva Stadium. Special thanks to Meath CD and Wicklow CD for their assistance today.

Missing Aircraft Exercise

DCD had a major exercise today with 71 Volunteers and 9 from CRS Northern Ireland. Great to see two different organizations work together in a very tough and cold environment.

Special thanks to all of the support team especially our Welfare Team for a very welcome hot curry.

Joint Exercise with CSR

Special Thanks and Praise to the Community Rescue Service N.I.

DCD had a two day joint training exercise with the CRS on the River Bann in Coleraine Co.Derry. A very worthwhile exercise using both our Sonar systems and looking forward to working with this group of Volunteers again.

St Patrick’s Day

Busy St.Patrick’s Day for DCD. Over 90 Volunteers, 36 Vehicles and 3 Rescue Boats covering 8 Parades. Well done to all involved.

Pre-Swim Test for Flood Responder Course.

52 DCD Volunteers took part in the pre-Swim Test in the Blessington Lakes this morning. The test involved a 150m Swim in very testing conditions. Special thanks to all that took part including the backup medical and our Rescue Boat crews. Our Drones provided top cover with our Inspire 2 with a 4K camera.

Missing Person Search

DCD carried out a Search today with 3 Search Teams and 2 HRD Dog Teams. Well done to all involved in what was a tough search in extremely poor weather.

Mass Casualty Exercise

DCD had a Mass Casualty Exercise this morning in the OBI. The scenario was a gas explosion in a residential block with 59 Casualties.

136 Volunteers were involved from 07.30 to 13.00 in the exercise with our Welfare Team providing a hot meal at the finish. Congratulations to our Volunteers that organized an extremely good exercise with lots of learning outcomes for all.

Luke Kelly Statue

DCD Swords Unit provided Medical and Water Rescue for the unveiling of the Luke Kelly memorial statue along the banks of the Royal Canal close to where he was born.

Emergency Rest Centre

DCD Incident Response Unit fully operational with logistical equipment for a 100 persons Emergency Rest Centre. Equipment includes beds, sleeping bags, pillows, collapsable wardrobes, animal cages, generators, emergency lighting and many other sundries, all preloaded on trolleys.

Presentation of Drone Pilot Licensees

Minister of Defence Paul Keogh TD presented Drone Pilot Certificates to Members of Civil Defence this afternoon. This increases our Drone Teams to 20 Operational Teams around the County. Well done to our two new pilots and special thanks to our Welfare team in providing Tea, Coffee and Sandwiches for all.

Annual Service McKee Barracks

Our Annual Service for Deceased Members of Dublin Civil Defence took place in McKee Army Barracks today. This was held in conjunction with a presentation of long service medals. Special thanks to our Colour Party and to the Lord Mayor of Dublin Cllr. Nial Ring, Cllr. Eimer Higgins from South Dublin Co Co, CEO Dublin City Council Owen Keegan, A/Chief Fire Officer Dennis Keeley.

Ireland v The All Blacks

DCD provided Fire,Medical and Rescue cover for the Ireland v The All Blacks in the Aviva tonight. Well done Ireland and Well Done to our Volunteers.

Plane Crash Exercise

Tuesday Night Rescue units from Rathra and Swords carried out a plane crash night exercise in the Furry Glen tonight. Our logistics unit provided emergency lighting. Well done to all involved. Exercise involved the search and rescue of 6 casualties and a search for aircraft parts including the black box.

Cold Weather Shelter

Our Cold Weather Shelter for the Homeless will open tonight and will remain open till March 2019. We can accommodate 20 persons on bunk beds. All enquiries must be through the DCC Homeless Section.
