Dublin Civil Defence will open the doors to its emergency shelter tonight at 9PM in its HQ on Wolf Tone quay. The facility is opening earlier than planned as part of the government's action plan on homeless that will see 260 emergency beds online before Christmas. The shelter will be open right through the Christmas period and will be staffed by Civil Defence volunteers. The Civil Defence officer and Assistant Civil Defence officers would like to thank all of those members that have volunteered to provide cover for the shelter. We are also seeking volunteers from other Civil Defence counties with staffing the facility.

Over a quarter of the 260 emergency beds promised to help tackle the homeless crisis will be in place from tomorrow, according to Dublin City Council.

Dublin Civil Defence is due to open its 20-bed emergency facility tomorrow, earlier than previously thought.

The shelter will stay open across the Christmas period and will be run by volunteers from the Civil Defence.
