Dublin Central Rescue is heading west this weekend to join up with Mayo Civil Defence, Mayo Mountain Rescue, Irish Coast Guard, the Air Corps, Gardai, the Order of Malta and over 600 local volunteers to provide medical and rescue support for the annual Reek Sunday Pilgrimage. The pilgrimage normally attracts over 20’000 participants that make the 2 hour climb to the top of the 762m high peak, a tradition that stretches back over 5’000 years. The “Reek” annually attracts over 1 million visitors, some even undertake the journey to the top barefoot as an act of pennants.
