Dublin Civil Defence recently visited THW Marburg (the German Agency for Technical Relief). THW is part of the German emergency services, providing support for public emergencies and disasters. The organization was founded in 1950 and has since grown into a modern flexible emergency service, closely mirroring many of the services provided by the Irish Civil Defence. Just like the Civil Defence THW is mostly made up of volunteers, representing 99% of all members.
Well done to DCD members on duty in the Aviva Stadium last night providing Rescue, Fire and Medical cover. Fire crews dealt with over 31 flares.
Last weekend Dublin, Kilkenny, Meath, Kildare, Galway and Tipperary took part in a multi county Swift Water Training exercise. SRT instructors gave a fantastic demonstration of Swift Water skills on the river Barrow. It was great to see counties working and training together for a common goal. A wonderful days training for all.

Dublin CD was tasked by An Garda Siochana to search the area of St. Edmundsbury Hospital in Lucan Co. Dublin
On Friday morning a party of thirty four members of Dublin CD assembled to conduct the search. Having met with the Gardai at St. Edmundsbury at 10.00hrs on Friday 16th and having discussed the requirements a command post was established and the search got under way at 10.30 hrs.
This coming Sunday, January 11th, Dublin Civil Defence will be holding a recruitment open day in our HQ at The Esplanade, Wolf Tone quay. Members from all services will be available on the day to talk about the duties and training involved with membership of the Civil Defence. Anyone with an Interest in joining the organization should attend and meet with the team.
The event kicks off at 3PM.
Dublin Civil Defence today hosted a multi agency research seminar for K9 victim recovery. Lorna Irish, PHD candidate from the university of Huddersfield’s school of applied sciences, presented her research into “Identification of Volatile Organic Chemicals that elicit a response from Trained Victim Recovery Dogs.” The event was attended by members of Án Garda Siochana, the Irish Prison service, Customs and Revenue, and the Civil Defence.
