Garden of Remembrance Ceremony

DCD provided Medical Cover at the Garden of Remembrance today. Well done to our Monday Night Casualty Unit for providing Volunteers in what is a very busy weekend for Civil Defence.

Civil Defence Easter Parade Marching Group visit Arbour Hill

100 Volunteers from Civil Defence marched from McKee Army Barack to the Memorial Grave of the Executed Leaders from the 1916 Rising in Arbour Hill today. Special thanks to Ronnie from the O.N.E. for a terrific history lesson at the Graveside and in the Garrison Church. We would highly recommend that more people to visit this historical site.

Bus Crash Exercise

47 Volunteers from DCD Central Division took park in a simulated major accident between a double decker bus and a truck in the OBI last Tuesday night. Great to see the AFS and Rescue Services  working together.

Open Day

DCD Open Day for new Recuits was held today at our HQ. Thanks to the 120+ people that turned up and special thanks to DCD Volunteers that assisted today.  

Presentation of Service Medal

Brian McGavin was presented with his 10yr Service Medal by ACDO Fergus Byrne and members of DCD Central AFS. Unfortunately Brian was unable to attend the Presentation Ceremony.

Lord Mayor of Dublin Hosts Reception for DCD

The Lord Mayor of Dublin Criona Ni Dhalaigh hosted a reception tonight to Commend DCD Volunteers for their Professionalism and Compassion to the Victims of the Carrickmines Tragedy. The Lord Mayor also praised DCD for the recent search and recovery in Lucan and our contribution to the flood relief in Longford.

Pumping Operation in Grand Canal Dock

DCD unit from Nutgrove assisted with the pumping out of water from the dry dock in the Grand Canal Basin yesterday for the Dublin Branch of the IAWI. Two of our Waterhouse pumps were used in conjunction with floating pumps.

Longford Flooding

DCD finished their flood relief assistance in Longford this evening. Thanks to all our drivers and operators that were involved.

Special thanks to Longford CDO Seamus Kieran and his dedicated Volunteers, great to work with you.  

Also special mention of the Community Spirit that was very evident in the areas of operations.  

Back to School

DCD along with our colleagues from Longford Civil Defence assist the children from Cloondara get back to school today.

Search and Recovery in River Liffey at Lucan

DCD carried out a search for a missing person  in the river Liffey and river banks at Lucan today. The person was found and body recovered by one of our Swift Water Rescue Teams. Our teams consisted of 6xSRT's, 8xSFR's, 1 X Boat crew [inflatable], 1 x Kayak crew [3], 1 x Land search team [4], 1 x Welfare Team [2].
